Volatility Indicators on Every Trend
Every trend card now shows a volatility indicator so you can tell at a glance how stable or unpredictable a trend's interest has been over the past five years.
You'll see one of three labels:
- Low volatility - Steady, consistent interest over time. These trends tend to be reliable and predictable.
- Avg volatility - Some ups and downs, but nothing extreme. A normal amount of fluctuation.
- High volatility - Big swings in interest. These trends can spike and drop quickly, so they may need closer attention.
Why this is useful
Not all growing trends are equally dependable. A trend might be rising fast but also swinging wildly from month to month. Volatility helps you separate the stable growers from the unpredictable ones, so you can make better decisions about which trends to bet on.
Combined with the existing pace indicator (Exploding, Growing, Steady, etc.), you now get a much fuller picture of how a trend is behaving - not just where it's heading, but how smoothly it's getting there.
